Highly detailed 1:24 Hobby Grade RC crawler “Land Rover Discovery FCX24M Camel Trophy RTR”, inspired by the expedition character of the original Discovery and built around a compact 4WD platform designed for trail driving and technical terrain.

The Land Rover Discovery was created around a different idea of adventure. Where some off-road vehicles were defined by their simplicity and compact dimensions, the Discovery brought together off-road capability, practicality and the ability to carry people and equipment into places far beyond ordinary roads.

That combination became part of the Discovery’s identity during the era of the Camel Trophy, when Land Rover vehicles were pushed through remote terrain where endurance, navigation and teamwork mattered as much as the vehicle itself. The Discovery’s boxy proportions, high roofline and unmistakable profile became closely associated with the idea of travelling further into the unknown.

The FCX24M captures that expedition character at 1:24 scale. Its hard ABS body reproduces the Discovery’s distinctive shape, while the detailed interior, scale accessories, roof rack and integrated lighting give the model the presence of a miniature expedition vehicle rather than simply a small RC truck.

But beneath that scale appearance is a platform designed to be driven.

The FCX24M 4WD chassis uses metal frame rails, four-link suspension, hydraulic-style shocks and metal-geared portal axles to create a mechanical foundation suited to uneven terrain. The portal axles raise the drivetrain above obstacles while the suspension allows the vehicle to maintain contact with the ground as the terrain changes beneath it.

Its 134 mm wheelbase gives the Discovery a different driving character from the shorter Defender 90. The longer footprint provides a more planted stance while retaining enough compactness for technical trails. With 28 mm of ground clearance, a 64° approach angle and a 55° departure angle, the FCX24M has the geometry to negotiate rocks, ledges and uneven ground without losing the proportions that make the Discovery recognizable.

The two-speed transmission also fits the vehicle’s expedition personality. Low range provides controlled torque for technical crawling, careful climbs and precise throttle work, while high range allows the Discovery to cover open sections of trail at a more natural pace.

Power comes from a 050 35T brushed motor, while the proportional radio system provides control over both throttle and steering. The included 7.4V 380mAh 2S LiPo battery supplies the power for trail sessions, with the compact platform making the model easy to transport and run almost anywhere.

The expedition theme continues through the factory-installed roof rack and integrated LED lighting, details that give the Discovery a distinctive presence when viewed as a scale vehicle. The quick-release body system also makes it easier to access the mechanical components when maintenance or adjustments are required.

What makes the Discovery particularly interesting is the balance between these two identities. It looks like a vehicle prepared to carry an expedition into remote country, yet underneath, the FCX24M platform gives it the compact dimensions and mechanical features needed for genuine RC trail driving.

It is a miniature interpretation of the Discovery’s original character: practical enough to carry the adventure, capable enough to leave the road behind, and distinctive enough to be recognised wherever the trail leads.
